Manage part designs
Guide for manufacturers to view and manage part designs, revisions, and specifications in the Phasio platform's centralized part management system
Phasio automatically performs a part similarity analysis on part files uploaded onto the platform whether via Storefront or the Manufacturer's Backend. Centering Phasio's data structure around parts (part design), their versions (revisions) and the manufacturing requirements (specification) allows manufacturers to keep track of every single part and all its manufacturing specifications to fulfill customer requests (requisitions).
Domain model transformation
Phasio's domain model structures data around four connected concepts:
- Part Design - The CAD data that persists across orders (no more duplicate parts for the same file)
- Revision - Version control for part designs (clear audit trail when customers update files)
- Specification - The complete "manufacturing recipe" including materials, post-processing, quality requirements, and constraints
- Requisition - Customer requests for specific quantities of parts with defined specifications
Impact
- Comments become global for manufacturers while remaining customer-scoped
- All related files (3MF, G-code, drawings) attach directly to parts
- Physical inventory maps to digital twins for complete traceability
- Manufacturing knowledge persists with parts (no more relying on staff memory)
This eliminates disconnected tools and enables true manufacturing intelligence. When customers reorder, all previous manufacturing decisions automatically apply. The system remembers custom requirements (like special surface finish, threaded inserts) and manufacturing issues, ensuring consistent quality and enabling scalable operations.
View part designs and versions
- Navigate to Manufacturing > Parts > Designs & Versions on the sidebar menu
- A table of all parts that have been ordered from the manufacturer is populated onscreen
- This table includes details including name, version number, dimensions, quality indicators (e.g., watertight etc.) and creation date
- Click on the specific parts to view further details and functionality including:
- Customers who have ordered that part before
- Similar part designs in your catalog
- Editing the design name (click Edit in the top-right corner of the screen)
- List of properties including version number, creation date, quality indicators, dimensions, minimum wall thickness
- Downloading STL file
- Downloading original part file
- View part specifications
