Manage workstations
Learn how to manage workstations in the Phasio manufacturing platform
Phasio’s workstation management interface gives you full control over your production workflow. You can view, configure, and organize all workstations—adjusting settings, reordering steps, and defining group naming behaviors to accurately track parts and builds throughout the process.
Workstation overview
Navigate to Manufacturing from the main sidebar to view all available workstations in your manufacturing shop.
The table includes the following columns:
- Workstation Name: The unique name that identifies the workstation or step in your production process.
- Group Prefix: A short label automatically added to part groups as they pass through this workstation, helping organize and identify builds (e.g., Build, MJF-Build).
- Constraint: The rule that determines how parts are grouped before entering this workstation, based on shared attributes (e.g., None, Material, or Material & Colour).
- Final Station: A marker that indicates whether this is the last step in the workflow, signalling the end of the manufacturing process (marked with a check icon if true).
Edit a workstation
- Locate the workstation you want to modify in the list.
- Click the ··· icon on the right side of the workstation row.
- Select Edit from the dropdown menu.
This opens the editing modal, where you can manage workstation settings that define how parts or groups are named when they enter the workstation.
-
Workstation Name
The name of the step as it will appear in your workflow. Use it to name the specific machine, task, or process this workstation represents (e.g., MJFPrinting, Sand blasting, Painting).
-
Sequence
Determines the order of this workstation in your production workflow. Position 0 represents the first workstation, with subsequent positions numbered 1, 2, 3, and so on.
-
Group Name Prefix
Applies a default prefix to part groups upon entry, ensuring consistent tracking as builds progress through the production workflow.
-
Step Naming Strategy
Determines how group names are handled when parts enter this workstation:
- Always Rename: Applies the Group Name Prefix when a part group enters this workstation.
- Rename if Build Changed: Applies the Group Name Prefix when a part group enters this workstation only if the build's composition has changed since the previous step (e.g., a part was removed from the group).
- Inherit Previous Step: Retains the group name from the previous workstation and appends a unique ID (e.g., name-ID) to ensure traceability.
-
Step Type
Defines how parts are progressed at this workstation:
- Base: Parts must be progressed manually.
- Download Parts as Group: Progress parts in a group by downloading them to your local machine.
- Upload 3MF: Progress parts as a group by uploading .3mf or .gcode files.
- Quality Control: Use the quality control interface for inspecting and approving parts manually.
-
View Type
Determines how parts are displayed in this workstation:
- Part: Show each part individually for detailed tracking.
- Build: Show parts as grouped builds, using their assigned group names.
-
Build Constraint
Defines how parts are grouped when entering the workstation:
- None: No grouping; all parts are treated the same.
- Material: Group parts by material type.
- Material and Color: Group parts by both material and color for more specific batching.
Select Save to confirm and update the workstation settings.
Delete a workstation
- Click the ··· icon on the right side of the workstation row.
- Select Delete from the dropdown menu.
- Confirm the deletion to permanently remove the workstation from your workflow.
⚠️ Note: Deleting a workstation will impact any workflows that currently use it. Make sure alternative workflow paths are in place before removing critical workstations. Only delete workstations that are empty and no longer in use.
